Weights are not going to help reduce the size of your tummy but cutting down on unnecessary junk food and drinks especially booze would be the first positive step you could start with.Secondly you need to strengthen your calf and thigh muscles so you do not put excess pressure on your abdominal muscles again which probably caused your hernia to occur in the first place. My advice is not to strain your self but cut down on calories and firstly figure out what caused the hernia and accordingly reeducate your body to cope the stress and strains of everyday life .
